Today we had two visitors make an amazing ship out of materials from the scrapyard. The boat had people, fish, and three propellers! 

Flutter into the Makery this week as we celebrate the most colorful pollinators, butterflies! Kick off National Pollinator Week, as we use wax and symmetry to create our own encaustic garden. Bob Palmatier, local illustrator, and environmental educator will be bringing along his collection of butterflies and bees to help get us started!

We have started construction for Kidzu’s new outdoor learning garden. Check back every week for progress pictures!

Kidzu will be hosting a special workshop on June 29th. We will be partnering with the American Dance Festival to celebrate dancing stories with Jody Cassell & Jude Casseday. Through sounds, rhythms and creative movements children join in making stories come alive. These adventures are originals and/or folk stories created from real life experiences found in the newspaper. Ages PreK to 5th grade will enjoy all aspects of these literary tales. The Next Parents’ Night Out is Friday, June 24 6:30-9:30pm:

Kids will enjoy a fun-filled night including exhibit play & exploration, a movie, and dinner from Alfredo’s Pizza Villa — one of our University Place restaurants. This is a drop-off event for children ages 3-9 (must be potty-trained). Kids will exercise their minds, bodies, imagination and independence. Mark your calendars now for these 2016 PNO’s from 6:30-9:30pm: 7/8, 7/22, 8/12, 8/26. Cost: $25 for the first child and $15 each additional child in the same household. In this workshop, young students will explore basic elements of dance and choreography such as shape, rhythm, gesture and tempo. We will explore the idea of using movement for expression and storytelling, as well as how to relate music to movement. Free on the University Place Center Stage! This program will be on Wednesday, June 22 at 10:30am.

During our busiest summer weeks, Kidz Voices will take place on University Place Center Stage! Venture out into the mall for a community-centered, interactive, music making experience! Learn more about the building blocks of music. Jump, wiggle, and discover your kids’ voices! Shows are free and open to the public at 10:30am!

Butterflies are fluttering into the Makery this week! Join us as we design and create our own Makery Masterpiece at 10 am using symmetry found in butterflies’ wings and explore the work of British artist, Damien Hirst. Later, get STEAM’D UP from 2-5 pm and explore the life cycle of butterflies in the Makery. You will be able to tell the story of a butterfly’s life with your very own take home booklet!

Johann is an amazing inventor and he has showcased his skills by becoming a mini maker! For his final creation Johann created his very own machine. He is now the newest of the Makery’s Mini Makers! If you want to become a mini maker come into the Makery to get your own card today!
